Now that we are recuperating from Mother's Day & Father's Day and waiting for the fireworks to begin on the Fourth of July, we have to mention that gift giving for moms and dads doesn't end with each one's dedicated day of the year.

We ordered some showcases last year for our showroom from a company in Philadelphia. They arrived in perfect condition, even though they were made of glass and I was so happy to receive them I called the rep at the company to thank him for his wonderful service.

He answered the phone hesitantly, thinking that I was calling to complain about damaged merchandise. I just told him that I was so happy with the product and the timely delivery, I called him to thank him for it. Surprisingly, he exclaimed, "ok, where's the 'but'?"

I said there is no "but." He just couldn't believe it! He said that in 20+ years with that company, a paucity of customers called to ever thank him. All his calls were complaints! I was so upset at hearing about this and then I felt thankful for being a part of CLC, where our customers actually call or email us even when things go just right or better than they expected, because they are wonderful, appreciative human beings! Thus, I want to share some recent testimonials with you in this post and encourage you to leave talk positively about companies that you like doing business with, since the world is so full of negative sentiments.

Before I post these testimonials, though, I would like to mention some positive experiences I had this week with my kids in the Niagara Falls area.

We went to 2 different places and I loved both of them. My kids enjoyed dearly as well and that's why I am taking the time to let you know about them because if you are ever in this area, you must make time to visit the following two attractions (aside from visiting us at CLC).

The first ride is the balloon ride at Niagara Falls, NY, which takes you up 400 ft in the air and lets you enjoy a truly breathtaking view of the entire Niagara Falls (USA & Canada) landscape. And guess what? It's extremely affordable, so please check it out.

The second attraction is our favorite amusement park, Fantasy Island, which is almost walking distance from CLC! It truly is family friendly and the fun is long lasting, especially for the kids. So please do check it out (on weekdays, preferably). They are open from Memorial Day to Labor Day (every day except Mondays).

Since we began sharing the Love we have for FedEx with our local customers last year (by becoming a FedEx Authorized ShipCenter), we have had many pleasant (and very few unpleasant) experiences.

We wanted to share some interesting stories about these experiences in this post and along the way, point out some common misconceptions about FedEx and its plethora of services. Needless to say, this post will not be enough to explain what we really want to say, so we will continue it in later posts.

Last week, one of our local customers, Becky H. from Grand Island, needed to ship health supplement bottles urgently to a pastor in Alabama. When we figured out the exact cost, we determined it would be about $30 cheaper to ship 2nd Day versus Standard Overnight. However, the 2nd Day air service included a $12.50 Saturday delivery surcharge because we were shipping out the package on a Thursday (and normally, FedEx does not deliver on weekends unless one pays a surcharge). So, Becky agreed and we shipped it out at 6:57 PM NY time last Thursday evening. Well, the package arrived the NEXT DAY and Becky called us to see what we told FedEx to get her package expedited through the system!!! We assured her that we did not do anything out of the ordinary and she was kind enough to thank us by emailing us a sincere feedback, which appears below:

"This is in regards to the excellent service you and your staff provided in getting our package to it's destination in a more than timely fashion. I had less than 10 minutes to get to your FedEx station and your staff waited for me as they knew I had had an urgent request. From helping to figure out the lowest price for the fastest shipment(promised in 2 days)our package arrived at its destination in 18 hours!!

Thank-you for your kind, courteous, prompt service." -Becky H., Grand Island, NY

The next story is about another one of our customers, who is an avid eBay seller. He came in earlier this week with a 49 pound box (going to NJ via FedEx Ground) and was almost positive that he lost money on the shipping cost of this particular auction item. We processed the label on the package and included $1000 of insurance as well! To his amazement, with a 2 day delivery commitment, the cost of this package came out to less than $21.00!!! Furthermore, he exclaimed out of joy that he had charged the buyer considerably more than that amount and had he gone to the good old USPS, the shipping cost (without Insurance) would have been higher than what the buyer had paid him!

So thank you FedEx for helping us gain trust with our customers and we shall continue to post more stories and testimonials about FedEx shipping as they occur.

This blog post is dedicated solely to our dear friends and clients, without whom we could never embark on such a fantastic journey (sounds like an adventure, right?).


Anyway, I am talking about the stressful 2 months that have passed trying to come up with and finish our website redesign! Well, I am more than elated to report that our new site design will be published next week (same URL, www.clcleather.com). However, this post is for our existing list of clients to preview the design and post their comments so that we can continue to improve throughout the year.


It's all worth the effort, I hope! June 2007 marks our 9th year in business and we have our wonderful clients to thank for this achievement. Isn't it interesting to also note that the 9th anniversary is also a leather year anniversary (in addition to the 3rd anniversary)?


I have added an image of the new homepage look for your reference and I am also listing some salient features of the new site below, for your convenience. However, I would like to assure you that this design is almost exclusively based on feedback from valuable friends and clients of CLC, so I would encourage to continue sending us your comments and / or posting them below on our blog.


With that said, here is a list of exciting features to be experience late next week on the new CLC:



  1. Each product will have multiple images (up to 8), so that all features can be shown properly to our website guests.

  2. Prominent link to our blog, enabling all our clients to openly comment about our products and services. We really love this interaction and encourage it immensely.

  3. More personalization options -this part is a surprise so you have to wait and see when the new site design is published, but I can tell you that you will really be happy about it.

  4. Live chat link (YES it's 24 Hrs) prominently displayed on every page, allowing our site visitors to ask a question in real time and get the answer without picking up the phone.

  5. Ability to Bookmark any page, so that you can come back to it later (after your exam, phone call, tanning appointment, etc.).

  6. Shop By Occasion links on each page, allowing you to find the perfect gift for the perfect occasion quickly and easily.

  7. Growing list of helpful articles about leather care, leather gifts and the leather industry, all designed to help our guests find the right answer to their questions about anything related to leather and / or gift giving.

And the list goes on and on.


Right now, though, I would like you, the reader to please comment on the homepage design seen above. Rest assured, we read all our comments and all of our emails.
